Because "Surfin Bird" doesn't sound like a typical surf song, many people never knew that The Trashmen really were a surf band. But they were.
(Or are -- who knows, anybody could still be making the rounds these days. A few years back I was on a plane with the original Kingsmen, who were on their way back to Portland from a featured gig at The Sausage Festival. True story.)
Standout tracks: "Henrietta," "Whoa Dad," two variations on "Surfin Bird," and "A-Bone," which spawned the name of the NYC band The A-Bones (featuring ex-Cramps drummer Miriam Linna).
